VQ Eye and Eye Wheel Choker

Wow, they don't scratch the rims like the old style ones...

Our VQ Wheel chokers are normally used on recovery vehicles to assist with tying down vehicles to a trailer without damaging alloy wheels. The soft polyester strap is strong enough to take a load of up to 2600 lbs. The polyester eyes replace the old style D-rings to prevent scratching and a protective cover that protect the polyester strands.

Basic Instructions

To assist with their safe usage, we have compiled these wheel choker instructions.

•The straps are used in conjunction with a long strap (normally 4m long).
•The long strap is passed through the eye at one end of the wheel strap, around the back of the wheel of the vehicle and back through the eye at the other end of the wheel strap.

The wheel strap lays horizontally across the side of the wheel.

Cargo Security information

Using Chain as Tie-Downs.
The one thing all of these chains have in common is that all can be used as tie-downs. The majority of chain used for tie-downs is Grade 70, also known as transport chain. It is easily recognized because of the gold-coloured plating which distinguishes it from other chains; however, we recommend that the operator verify the grade by its embossed identification.

Although the National Safety Code allows the use of coil chain of grade 30 we do not recommend using them, however, they all will have to be tagged.

National Safety Code Standard 10 – Cargo Securement Changes Effective January 1, 2010
 Requirement to use tie-downs marked with Working Load Limit.

Please Note: Even tho the chain tiedown may be tagged, the chain will need to be stamped in accordance with NACM by the manufacturer and the inspector will need to be able to see it present.
Stamping: Grade and manufacturers ID.

Safety should always be our number one concern so let’s make sure all the chain tie-downs are in good working condition. If you’re not sure of any part of these securement practices, please call WorkSafeBC or Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators for more assistance.

"on and after January 1, 2010, a person shall not use a tiedown or a component of a tiedown to secure cargo to a vehicle unless it is marked by the manufacturer with respect to its working load limit."

Do you need to have Tiedowns Tagged?

This is an area we have gotten a lot of calls and where there isn’t an easy way to find the answers. But let me try and answer the main question whether you need your tiedowns tagged?

Answer:  YES.

There was a section in the NSCS10 that has been amended. Unmarked tiedowns.
