Understanding Shafting Finishes
The Surface Is Part of the Performance.
Precision shafting is selected by more than its base steel grade. Surface finish, diameter tolerance, hardness, wear resistance and corrosion protection all affect how the shaft performs in service.
Turned, Ground and Polished
The original bar surface is removed through turning, followed by grinding to control diameter and polishing to create a clean, smooth finished surface.

Chrome Plated
Hard chrome is applied over finished 1045 shafting to improve surface hardness, wear resistance, corrosion resistance and service life in hydraulic applications.
Commonly associated with: 1045 chrome-plated TG&P shafting
Induction Hardened and Chrome Plated
The shaft surface is induction hardened before chrome plating, providing additional resistance to wear and surface damage while maintaining a tough supporting core.
