Do you need to have Tiedowns Tagged?
This is an area we have gotten a lot of calls and where there isn’t an easy way to find the answers. But let me try and answer the main question whether you need your tiedowns tagged?
Answer: YES.
There was a section in the NSCS10 that has been amended. Unmarked tiedowns.
National Safety Code Standard 10 – Cargo Securement Changes Effective January 1, 2010
Requirement to use tiedowns marked with Working Load Limit.
WLL chart listed below is what is cited. National Association of Chain Manufacturers
Please Note: Even tho the chain tiedown may be tagged, the chain will need to be stamped in accordance with NACM by the manufacturer and the inspector will need to be able to see it present.
Stamping: Grade and manufacturers ID.
Safety should always be our number one concern so let’s make sure all the chain tiedowns are in good working condition. If you’re not sure of any part of these securement practices, please call WorkSafeBC or Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators for more assistance.
Driver’s Handbook on Cargo Securement is also a good resource.
