Understanding Carbon Steel
The Grade and Finish Both Matter.
Carbon steel is selected by more than its grade number. Carbon content, manufacturing method, surface finish, dimensional tolerance and machinability all affect how the material performs in production.
Cold Finished
Cold finished bar provides a cleaner surface and closer dimensional control than standard hot rolled material. Depending on the size and profile, the bar may be cold drawn or finished through additional machining and polishing.

Higher Strength and Wear Resistance
Increasing carbon content provides greater strength, hardness and wear resistance. Medium carbon grades can also respond to heat treatment when additional mechanical performance is needed.

Built for Efficient Machining
Free-machining steel is produced to improve chip control, machining speed, tool life and surface finish. It is generally selected for machined components rather than welded applications.
